What Are Connections?

Connections allow you to create meaningful relationships between notes and between notes and goals. They enrich your clinical work by making patterns, progress, and relationships in the therapy process visible.

Text level

A connection created from a specific text selection in the editor. The connected text is marked with a blue underline.

Note level

A connection created from the note as a whole. Not tied to a specific text selection.

Tip

Connections make patterns, progress, and relationships in the therapy process visible.

Connection Types

Connection types are divided into two groups based on the source and target type.

Note → Note

Related

A general, non-causal link between two notes.

Supports

An idea or observation in one note supports an idea in another note.

Opposes

An idea or observation in one note contradicts an idea in another note.

Note → Goal

Related

A general link between the note and the goal.

Progress

A concrete, observable step toward the goal.

Setback

A step back from the goal or a sign of regression.

Obstacle

A situation or event that makes achieving the goal more difficult.

Exploration

Analysis or observation exploring the underlying reasons of a goal.

Intervention

A therapeutic strategy applied to achieve the goal.

Theme

The core theme underlying the goal (a schema, belief, or existential issue).

Creating Connections

There are three different ways to create a connection.

By Selecting Text (Text Level)

1

Select text in the editor

Select at least 3 characters of text in the note editor.

2

Click the connection icon

Click the connection icon in the toolbar that appears.

3

Search and select a target

Search for and select the note or goal you want to connect to.

4

Select the relationship type

Choose the connection type. The connected text will be marked with a blue underline.

From the Connections Panel in Note Editor (Note Level)

1

Open the Connections panel

Open the note in the editor and click the "Connections" tab on the right side.

2

Click "Create Connection"

Click the button in the Connections panel to open the creation form.

3

Search and select a target

Search for and select the note or goal you want to connect to.

4

Select the relationship type

Choose the appropriate connection type from the dropdown list.

From Notes Page (Note Level)

1

Open the "..." menu

On the Notes page, select "Create Connection" from the "..." menu on the top right of the note card.

2

Search and select a target

Search for and select the note or goal you want to connect to.

3

Select the relationship type

Choose the appropriate connection type from the dropdown list.

Tip
Connections can also be created from the goal side. On the client's Goals tab, open a goal's context panel to add a note or breakthrough connection directly. For details, see the Client Goals guide.

Viewing Connections

You can view your connections from different places.

Connections Panel

The "Connections" tab on the right side of the note editor — all connections are grouped by the note or goal they are linked to.

Notes Page

On the Notes page, select "View Connections" from the "..." menu on the note card to see all connections for that note. A connection count badge is also shown on the note card.

Clicking Connected Text

Clicking the blue-underlined connected text in the note editor opens an info bubble — showing relationship details and a "go to target" button.

Goal Panel

The "Connected Notes" section in the client goal — lists all notes connected to the goal.

Managing Connections

Changing Type

You can change the relationship type of a connection.

1

Click the edit icon

In the Connections panel of the note editor, click the pencil icon next to the connection you want to change.

2

Select a new type

Choose the new relationship type from the dropdown list.

Reflection connection types cannot be changed.

Deleting Connections

You can delete connections in two ways.

Delete from Connections panel

In the Connections panel of the note editor, click the trash icon next to the connection you want to delete and confirm.

Delete by removing text

When you delete the blue-underlined connected text in the note editor, the connection tied to that text is automatically deleted.

Automatic Deletion Cases

In some cases, connections are automatically deleted.

Content cleared

When note content is completely cleared, text-level connections are removed.

Note permanently deleted

When a note is permanently deleted, all connections are permanently and irreversibly deleted.

Client changed

When the note's client is changed, connections to the old client's goals are removed.

Converted to personal

When a clinical note is converted to personal, goal connections are removed.

Isolation Rules

Connections are subject to isolation rules to prevent unwanted cross-references between client data. These rules are enforced at the target selection step — notes and goals that violate the rules won't appear in search results.

Source NoteTargetStatus
Clinical noteSame client's goalAllowed
Clinical noteDifferent client's note/goalBlocked
Personal noteGoalBlocked
Personal noteClinical noteAllowed
Personal notePersonal noteAllowed
Tip

Isolation rules prevent accidental cross-references between different clients' data.

Important Notes

Connected text appears with a blue underline in the note editor and cannot be edited. To delete it, select all the text and delete.

Text-level connections require selecting at least 3 characters.

Multiple connections can exist between the same two notes (or note-goal pair) — with different types or from different text selections.

There is bidirectional interaction between the Connections panel and the note editor: clicking a connection in the panel highlights the related text in the editor.
