What Is a Reflection Note?

A reflection note is a personal note type that allows you to examine your own thoughts, emotions, and reactions as a therapist. It is used after sessions, difficult experiences, or for deepening clinical observations.

Personal category

Reflection notes are under the Personal category — separate from clinical records, a space just for you.

Self-examination

Used to identify and analyze your own reactions, emotions, and thought patterns in the clinical process.

Tip

Reflection notes are completely personal — a space kept only for you.

Why Write Reflections?

Countertransference awareness

Recognize and analyze intense, unexpected emotions you feel toward your client.

Professional development

Record what you learn from sessions, evaluate your techniques.

Burnout prevention

Process and release the emotional weight of difficult sessions through writing.

Discover clinical patterns

Notice recurring themes and your reaction patterns over time.

Supervision preparation

Prepare for your supervision meetings with concrete notes.

Tip

Regular reflection writing improves the quality of the therapeutic relationship and helps prevent therapist burnout.

Creating a Reflection Note

There are two different ways to create a reflection note.

By Selecting Text (Linked Reflection)

1

Select text

Select at least 3 characters of text in the note editor.

2

Click the compass icon

Click the compass icon in the toolbar that appears.

3

Automatic creation

A new reflection note is automatically created. Your selected text is marked with yellow highlighting.

4

Quote block

The selected text appears as a quote block in the new note, with space below for writing your thoughts.

An automatic connection is created between the source note and the reflection note.

You can customize templates or create new ones from Tools > Note Types > Reflection section.

Yellow Highlighted Text Interaction

In reflections created by selecting text, the selected text in the source note is marked with yellow highlighting.

Title and preview

Clicking the yellow text opens an info bubble showing the reflection note's title and content preview.

"Go to Note" button

Allows you to navigate directly to the reflection note.

"Remove Connection" button

Allows you to delete the yellow highlighting and the connection.

Yellow highlighted text is editable (unlike connection text).

Important Notes

Reflection notes are in the "Personal" category, kept separate from clinical records.

Reflections created by selecting text have automatic connections; directly created ones do not.

The reflection connection type is managed by the system — it cannot be changed manually.

Reflections cannot be created on text that already has another connection or highlighting.

Reflection notes inherit the client information of the source note (clinical context is preserved).
