Version History and Restore
Learn how to manage your notes' version history, create automatic and manual versions, and restore to a previous version.
What is Version History?
Version history is a safety mechanism that stores snapshots of your notes' previous states. Even if you accidentally delete content or make unwanted changes, you can always revert to a previous version.
Mindora automatically saves your notes as you type. Version history is different — it stores snapshots of your content at specific moments. You don't need to constantly create versions; everyday saving is handled automatically.
How Are Versions Created?
In Mindora, versions are created in two ways: automatically and manually.
Automatic Versions
The system automatically saves a copy of the current content before making a critical change to your note. This way, you can always revert to the state before the change.
Before content clear
When you clear a note entirely, the previous content is automatically saved.
Before template apply
When you apply a template to a note, the current content is automatically saved.
Before version restore
When you restore to an older version, the current content is automatically saved.
Automatic versions show the reason in parentheses in the "saved by" field. For example: "Your Name (Before Template Apply)".
Manual Versions
When you want to save an important milestone, you can manually create a version from the note editor.
Open the note
Open the note you want to create a version for in the editor.
Click "Save Version"
You can find this button in the note editor toolbar.
Version created
The current content is saved as a version and appears in the history.
Creating a manual version before making major edits is a good habit. Automatic versions are only created during specific system events.
Viewing Version History
The version history panel shows all saved versions of the note in reverse chronological order (newest first).
Open version history
Click the clock icon in the note editor to open the version history panel.
Browse versions
Each version shows the save time, who saved it, and a content preview.
Preview a version
Click the "Preview" button to view the full content of a version.
Version List Details
Save time
Shows when the version was saved (e.g., "2 hours ago").
Saved by
Shows who saved the version. Automatic versions include the reason in parentheses.
Content preview
Shows the first 150 characters of the version content.
Latest badge
The most recent version is marked with a "Latest Saved" badge.
Restoring a Version
Restoring to an older version replaces your note's content with the selected version's content. Your current content is automatically saved before the restore.
Select a version
Click the "Restore" button on the version you want to revert to.
Connection analysis
The system automatically analyzes the status of inline connections in the target version.
Review and confirm
If you have inline connections, an info/warning window is shown. Even if all connections will be kept, the window opens so you can review the connection status. Review and confirm.
Restore complete
The note content is updated and a success notification is shown.
Connection Impact During Restore
If your note has inline connections, when reverting to an older version, the status of these connections is analyzed. The system checks each connection and categorizes them into three groups:
Say you typed "Anxiety level is high" in your note and created a connection to a goal by selecting that text. Now you want to restore to an older version:
Kept
You're restoring to a version saved after you created the connection. Both the text and the connection are already there — nothing changes.
Reattached
You're restoring to a version saved after you typed the text but before you created the connection. The text exists, so the system automatically re-creates the connection.
Deleted
You're restoring to a version saved before you even typed that text. The text doesn't exist, so the connection can't be preserved and is permanently deleted.
Deletion Reasons
A connection can be deleted for different reasons. The restore warning window shows the reason for each connection:
Quote text not found
The text referenced by the connection does not exist in the target version.
Connected entity deleted
The note or goal targeted by the connection has been permanently deleted.
Isolation violation
The connection points to a note or goal belonging to a different client, violating client isolation rules.
The system already automatically cleans up isolation violations when the note's assigned client changes. This check acts as an additional safety layer during restore.
Connection Direction
In the warning window, connections are grouped by their direction:
Outgoing from this note
Connections going from this note to another note or goal.
Incoming to this note
Connections coming from another note to this note.
Important Notes
Deleted connections cannot be undone. Review the warning window carefully before restoring.
Your current content is automatically versioned during restore. If you want to undo the restore, you can revert to this automatic version.
The latest saved version may not be your most current content. Since auto-save does not create versions, you may have edits made after the last version. You can restore to the latest version as well.
Manual versions cannot be created if the note content is empty.
If you don't have inline connections, the restore happens directly without a warning window.
A maximum of 50 versions are stored per note. When the limit is reached, the oldest versions are automatically deleted.
