Insurance Documentation Requirements

As a mental health professional in the US, providing proper documentation helps your clients get reimbursed by their insurance companies for out-of-network benefits.

What is a Superbill?

A Superbill is an itemized receipt that healthcare providers give to patients. It contains all the information needed for patients to submit their own insurance claims for reimbursement (out-of-network benefits).

Out-of-Network Benefits
Many clients have out-of-network mental health benefits. By providing a Superbill, you help them get reimbursed while maintaining your independence as an out-of-network provider.

When to Provide Documentation

Your clients may need documentation for different purposes:

Insurance Reimbursement

Superbill with CPT/ICD-10 codes for claims

HSA/FSA Spending

Receipt showing service and payment details

Client Request
Clients may request Superbills monthly or after each session. Be prepared to provide them promptly.
